Scranton Move

Here’s the word from the tech guys:

“We’re moving V31 (64.191.15.213 – Scranton, PA) to our New York facility to improve performance and reliability. Routes from PA were backhauled from New York City as a primary NSP source anyhow – so there has really been no good reason for this server to exist in the first place. The new servers are now online at 72.37.204.94 using ubiquityservers.com’s Mzima network. Old servers will be shut off on June 3rd at 12:00 AM.”

I apologize if you blacked out in the middle of it like I did. Grab some coffee, walk it off.

Basically, all of the traffic to our Scranton server passed through New York. Even if you were next door to the server, the traffic was routed through New York. Oh sweet irony! We put the server in Scranton because it was closer to you, our customers, but after extensive empirical research, it was actually worse. This change means improved ping times and we’re talking at least 5-10 milliseconds here, which is also how long my attention sp

Reseller Hosting Announced: Blogs Optional

Bloomington, IL (May 3, 2007) — DarkStar Communications (www.darkstarllc.com), provider of Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Gaming, Shell, and IRCd hosting services, has announced the release of its new Reseller Control System (RCS). Utilizing a unique AJAX-based interface which interfaces with DarkStar’s proprietary Ventrilo API, DarkStar’s resellers will be able to instantly begin offering Ventrilo server hosting services to their own base of customers.

Clients utilizing DarkStar’s new Ventrilo reseller accounts can offer Ventrilo hosting services from any of DarkStar point of presence. For their customers, this translates to a turnkey solution for a 100% automated Ventrilo company with servers in 21 different cities, distributed in 11 different countries across America, Europe, and East Asia / Oceania.

“Voice communications is a massive market for the modern Internet community,” said Daniel Kaczmark, a Senior Support Representative with DarkStar Communications. “For smaller start-ups, it’s unrealistic to achieve the needed volume licensing or server infrastructure in multiple cities- and as a leader in the Ventrilo industry; we felt it was our obligation to help.”

Although DarkStar’s RCS is currently limited to Ventrilo hosting, the next release of the Reseller Control System due out by Q3 of ‘07 is expected to pull in the full scope of DarkStar’s services to their reseller services. This in turn would allow their customers to easily include an automated Teamspeak, Gaming, Shell, and IRCd service catalog which is full compatible with the existing proprietary Global Client Control Center – the custom control panel that powers DarkStar’s entire catalog of services.
